Lukas Grows Down

This term we have been making this movie. It is based off the book called Otto Grows Down.

I enjoyed making this movie because I got to pretend to be a baby.

Flat Packs

I made a flat pack house. Some of the issues I had was trying to connect the side walls.

 Design Brief
We want a decorative model that can be put on top of the shelves by the windows. The model needs to be:

• Made from cardboard
• A flat pack design
• Good enough to go in a shop

We had a go at following instructions to make a flat pack Christmas Tree. We used this concept to help us to create our own flat pack using the design process.

As part of the design process we created prototypes and reflected on what worked and what didn't.

Sport Start - Core

This term for Sport Start we are learning how to stretch, roll and travel.

Seed2Table

This term we are doing the Seed2Table programme.

During the cooking part I have learnt:

• How to follow a recipe
• Use a knife safely
• How to grate
• How to set the table

During the science part I have learnt:

• About the different parts of a plant

We are also growing our own potatoes in buckets. It is a competition who can grow the most.

My favourite recipe was the Spanakopita Pie which is has  silver beet and 3 cheeses in filo pastry.

WALT Be Creative

This term has been a lot of fun learning about photography. We have been learning about the rule of thirds and angles.

Maths

This term WALT use scales to measure the mass of objects. I am getting more confident with reading scales and estimating how much an object weighs.

Creative Writing

This term we have had a lot of fun with our writing. I am really proud of what I have achieved. Below is one of my favourite pieces that I wrote this term.

3D Shapes - different view points

In Maths we have been looking at different view points on shapes. I enjoyed challenging myself with complex shapes.

Our Assembly

The Superheroes and Brain Busters were on assembly on Friday Week 4. I got to have a speaking part. It was a bit scary being on stage in front of everyone but I am proud that I gave it a go.

Cross Country

Before Cross Country
When I got to school my spine was chilling. I got dozens of butterflies in my tummy. We are going to skoogland park. I am very very pumped like a ball and very very excited. My goal is to beat my last score.

Cross Country
When we got to the park all the teachers put down blue mats and we put our bags on the mat. Then we got started. After the 5 and 6 boys, girls and also the year 4 girls it was my turn. David touch the horn we flew off like planes. It was all fun. I came 7th.

Legend of the Moon

Long, long ago Henry and Josh hated the huge boulder blocking the sunlight. So then they went to the forest to see Tāne. So they brought him to the boulder and asked him to push it into the sky. So Tāne pushed with all his might and then he sadly said I can't push it into the sky. Then they went and got Hercules. They brought him to the boulder. Hercules pushed and pushed with all his might then Zeus came and pushed it into the sky. Now that's how the moon became the moon. The end

Dance NZ Made

In Week 4 Dean McKerras took us for a dance session to see if we were keen to join Dance NZ Made.

Sport Start

This term our class has been using Sports Start. We are getting better at these skills:

• running
• catching
• passing
• throwing
• jumping
• fast reactions
• batting

Our class has been playing Diamond Ball which is like Baseball/Softball.

I have improved with catching the ball.

I really enjoyed playing the different games because we could adapt them.

I need to keep working on my underarm throws.

Planet Facts

For reading we have been researching facts about the planets in our solar system. We worked collaboratively to write this.

Chapter Chat

• On Fridays we take part in Chapter Chat. We join other schools from all over New Zealand to Tweet about the book we are reading.

• I really enjoyed taking part in Chapter Chat because we got to interact with children from all over New Zealand. It is cool that we get to share our work with so many different people.

Planet Earth & Beyond - Pre Assessment

My Swimming Goal

This year in swimming I have been working on my freestyle. My goal has been to keep my chin on my chest to make sure my legs stay on top of the water. Also this helps me to swim straight. In my swimming lessons sometimes I practise with a dive ring under my chin.

I think I am improving with keeping my chin on my chest. I now need to focus on kicking with straight legs and fast feet.

Van Gogh Style Art

We are learning to paint like Van Gogh. We have read lots of books and watched some tutorials. We've experimented with painting our portraits and now we have had a go at painting sunflowers.

Our paintings needs to have

• short brush strokes
• bright colours
• positive & negative images (Main object with a complementing background)

We watched this video before starting to help us with our painting.

Reflection

I am proud of the shapes of my sunflowers & the short brush strokes.

The most challenging part was trying to keep the strokes short.

If I were to do it again I would add more detail to my pot.
